The Clarence Valley Orchestra and Chorus are back again with ‘An Afternoon at The Pops’ for their 10th Anniversary at the Saraton Theatre with another fantastic program from Artistic Director & Conductor Greg Butcher on Sunday afternoon 27th October.

Joined by Anthony Ackroyd as Compere.
Ackroyd began performing stand-up comedy at the Sydney Comedy Store in the 1980s and has had television exposure with appearances on popular TV shows such as The Video Comedy StoreHey Hey It's Saturday, The Midday Show, The Big Gig, Good News WeekTonight LiveMornings with Kerri-Anne, and Pizza. Between 1996-2021 he was a cast member of the ABC Radio current events comedy show Thank God It's Friday!'

Their 10th anniversary concert special guest artists are The Kransky Sisters from Esk, who are driving their Morris down to Grafton to join the Clarence Valley Orchestra & Chorus for the performance. The Kransky Sisters have been regular guests on television including SBS’s In Siberia Tonight and ABC’s The Side Show, Spicks and Specks and BBC’s Comedy Shuffle.

Venturing out from the secret laden walls of the sisters’ secluded home, this strange and endearing trio will share stories of their misfit adventures paired with famous songs gleaned from the old wireless at home. From Abba to Daft Punk, Sia to Steppenwolf, Pink to Pink Floyd, get ready to hear well-known tunes like you’ve never heard them before! With their peculiar spin on popular songs played on an eclectic mix of instruments including musical saw, tuba, old reed keyboard, and kitchen pots, these oddball Queensland Sisters are looking forward to bringing to the table their own tunes while sharing the Saraton Theatre stage with the popular local orchestra & chorus.

The Clarence Valley Orchestra has become the musical flagship of the Clarence Valley, promoting classical music and popular entertainment on a grand scale for the pleasure of both our community and visitors to the area. Profits from these concerts go towards registered charities or small scholarships for CVO members enrolled in a university music program to further their musical careers. Including today’s performance, there will have been over $100,000 donated to charity and other organisations since the orchestra’s inception in 2014.

Over the last year and the following 2 years, the orchestra is working in partnership with the University of Wollongong and Grafton Hospital, initiating the first Clarence Valley Orchestra Medical Student Scholarship to help establish full-time GPs in the Valley.
